I’ve had the pleasure of contributing two unique artworks to the newly opened 1 Hotel Copenhagen – a space where sustainability, Nordic nature, and sensory design come together in harmony. The hotel is created with deep respect for the environment and the origins of materials, and it’s been an honour to contribute pieces that reflect and resonate with those values.

"Phragmiites"  is inspired by the organic language of nature – reeds, coastal plants, and the subtle movement of wetlands. The colour palette leans into muted greens, reminiscent of Phragmites and coastal meadows.

The embroidery is divided into sections, with a felted, more grounded texture and no loose threads. Its surface is tactile and calm, offering depth and a quiet presence that echoes the natural landscapes it draws from. The yarn is dyed with walnut and reed, giving the piece an earthy richness and a deep sense of place.

"Dunes" is inspired by the Danish coastal landscape – the dunes, the open sea, and the waves that continuously wash ashore. The colours are drawn from the shoreline: sand, seaweed, heather, and the shifting light on the water. In the distance, birds glide across the sky – like cranes in gentle motion.

The embroidery is composed of flowing lines and light threads that move with the breeze. The yarn is naturally dyed with avocado, walnut, and heather, and the wool comes from Danish farms near the coast. The mix of coarse and fine fibres creates a tactile contrast – reflecting the meeting of raw nature and refined craftsmanship.
